Types of Clothing to Wear with Psoriasis

Day to day, psoriasis can be very uncomfortable and cause you to feel embarrassed. Especially if you are having a flare up, the last thing you want to do is put on tight and uncomfortable clothing that will only make the flare up worse! Here are some tips on what to wear during a flare up or tips on what to wear day-to-day that will help keep the flare ups at bay and your skin feeling and looking its best!

Many fabrics can be particularly uncomfortable for many people, but especially for those of us with psoriasis. Fabrics like wool on sweaters can be itchy and irritating for sensitive skin in particular. To help with sensitive skin or if you are having a flare up but you still want to wear your favorite wool sweater, try layering materials under your less comfortable fabrics. If you wear a cotton shirt or camisole underneath a sweater or other uncomfortable fabric, then this can make it more comfortable for you throughout the day.

Another great tip is to stick to looser clothes. If the clothes are too tight and are constantly rubbing against your skin and chafing you, then this will irritate your skin and potentially trigger a flare up or irritate your flare up further.

Many in the Kenkoderm Kommunity also suggest wearing light colors or patterns to minimize the look of flakes which typically hide flakes better than dark colors.

If you are experiencing a flare up that is making you feel embarrassed, then you can try wearing things that can cover up different lesions you may have that are prominent or showing more than you would like. If you keep a scarf or jacket or cardigan with you, then this might make you feel better in the case of a flare up.

Overall, psoriasis is something that is tough to control. Wearing something that makes you feel confident and beautiful is the most important thing. It is tough to control psoriasis and keep it at bay, but you can control how you feel about it and how you deal with it, so we always suggest doing what is best for you and what makes you feel confident in your own skin!
